Winter Kayaking

Posted by Jeremy Schneider on June 11, 2010 at 12:17 PM

** IMPORTANT**  when you kayak you dont get wet unless you want to  our kayaks are very stable so you wont tip. so now is the time to kayak our local lakes!

Well now that Arizona has reached cooler temps it’s time to talk about Winter time kayaking in AZ.

Local lakes: If you’re thinking about kayaking some of our local lakes it’s still a great time to do so. Canyon, Saguaro, Apache, Roosevelt, Pleasant, etc are all open, and for the first time in many years filled to capacity after this year’s rains. Now is the perfect time to kayak these lakes. with little to no boat traffic and perfect temps. come see what arizona has to offer.

River Kayaking: Phoenix residents are blessed to have a fun easy river so close to us. The Lower Salt River is located about 5 min north of the 202 and Power Road and offers some great kayaking. The river flow is greatly slowed down but is still open from Phon D sutton to granite reef this makes for a fun short kayak trip (under two hours) with calm water and cooler temps its a perfect place to take the family.

If you continue past Phon D Sutton there is a good chance you could see some of the local mustang heard grazing in the water. especially in the winter months. also December through February the bald eagles return to nest in some of the large trees along the river so bring your camera.

City lakes:

Dont have the time to make it out to the lake but still want to try some kayaking the phoenix area has 30+ city lakes you can paddle around in. The largest being Tempe Town Lake.
