Salt River at Night!

This months Kayak trip was a celebration trip for us at Sonoran Kayak Rentals after months of planning we have finally opened a west valley kayak rental location. That's right west siders your requests have been heard! To celebrate this event along with the 30th birthday of one of our guys we decided to do a night paddle down the salt river!

We loaded up the trailers and had a huge group grabbed some food and a big box of glow sticks one for each kayak. Its fun to see all the glow sticks bobbing in the water as the kayaks go by. We entered the water users recreation site and put in the water around sunset. With it being a weekday night we had the river to our selves. The temperature on the water was just about 80 degrees a nice change from the valleys 100+ With about 3/4 of the moon showing there was no need for headlamps our eyes adjusted to the darkness and we could see actually quite well. For the most part our group of kayakers have ran the river hundreds of times but just the simple change from day to night made for an all new experience. Being highly experienced at running the river is not required to do this trip. We had a few first timers with us and even one guy who had never been on a kayak once in his life! We half floated half paddled and just relaxed, the river only flows one direction so no need to worry about getting lost. When we passed under the bridge at blue point recreation area everyone sang Happy Birthday to Jeremy at full volume and way off pitch haha. It made for some fun times. We then continued our leisurely paddle down to the Goldfield recreation area. The exit point is very clearly marked on the left hand side. We enhanced this areas visibility when we dropped off the cars at this site on the way in with a glow stick hanging from one of the exit point signs. It was waiting for us on our return glowing brightly. This section took us about 2.5 hours and was well worth it I would highly recommend it as another fun way to enjoy kayaking in Arizona!
